No wonder I have ringing in my ears

So during this holiday weekend, I really didn’t feel like doing "real" work, especially with everything going on, so I decided to work on a little project I’ve been meaning to do for a while.   I was thinking about it for at least a few months now, but then when I got my concert ticket albums in a few weeks ago, and completely re-organized my ticket collection, I figured I really should do it.

So I wrote out EVERY concert I’ve been to (ok, well, not every… there’s a lot of club shows I did not include in there), put them in chronological order, wrote down who I went with, and then racked my brain for EVERY OPENING BAND as well.

Here’s what I ended up with: an Excel sheet with 236 lines in it.   I was able to now confidently say that I have seen at least 182 bands give 236 performances.  But with all the missing club shows, that is easily over 200 bands giving over 250 performances.  Pretty impressive stuff, if I do say so myself.

For those interested, here is a list of the bands and artists that I have seen over the years (going back to 1989):

  1. A few questions and comments:

I know you are a completist, but why did you include those window licking, stray dog-humping, jock strap-sniffing, shit-brained dingbats, Zeke and Tiamat? I’m ashamed to say I saw them with you!!

Jonny Lang used to be fuckin hot, did I see him with you?

I’m jealous that you saw Joe Satriani but grateful that you took me to see Steve Vai.

When the HELL did you see Duran Duran?? lol

DMX?? I’m not even gonna ask…

  2. Hey, you gotta take the good with the bad. Look at it this way – now we know that we don’t want to see them again (though I need to download some Zeke, since I’ve read in three seperate places about how good they are supposed to be… maybe they just suck live or something)!

Johnny Lang opened up for Aerosmith one time… I don’t know if you were with me, but its likely.

I actually saw Steve Vai twice – once with you and once with Eric on the G3 Tour, which is when I saw Vai. I think you may have been dating Satan at the time and wasn’t allowed to come out and play.

Duran Duran was years ago, back in high school. A bunch of people from the bakery were going and I joined in.

DMX was at Woodstock ’99. Admittedly, we only saw a few songs, but in book, that counts, since I did see him perform and that’s all I would want to see anyway…
